Wally lettered 8 times in 3 sports at Bishop Noll between 1971 and 1975. Wally played tight end and defensive end. He was a two-year starter in basketball and played on the 73 regional championship team. Wally was a three-year high hurdler and long jumper for the Noll track team.

Wally was awarded a Big Ten football scholarship to Northwestern where he started for the Wildcats as a tight end his sophomore through senior seasons.
Wally was named All-State and Parade All-American in 1974. In 1975, he was chosen to play in the IFCA North-South All-Star game.
Wally and his wife Nora have two sons, Wally III and Will.
Wally returned to Bishop Noll as a member of its coaching staff in 1981 and coached there for 33 years. Highlighting his career was his role as Defensive Coordinator for the Warrior's 1989 Class 3A State Championship team.
