Played baseball and football; outstanding punter on the football team, leading city in punting 1941-1942.

Received honors in Big Ten baseball; named MVP pitcher on IU Big Ten Championship team in 1949; led Big Ten in strikeouts.
Voted on the State Team three years in a row and on the National Baseball Congress team; received a Community Service Award for his volunteer work with local athletes; worked with high school and college football players on conditioning and punting techniques, with some receiving special recognition as All-State Punters; worked with such Andrean High School greats as Mike Kayes, Mike Mills, and Steve McIntyre; continued working on the kicking game with local players; served in US Navy, stationed at Sampson Boot Camp in New York, where he established a record of 2800 sit-ups.
Professional Athletic Background: Played with a Nashville Semi-Pro Team; played with the Pittsburgh Pirate organization in Hollywood, New Orleans, Waco, and Quebec City.
