4-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball; All-State halfback 1925; 2-time All-Sectional basketball; basketball team captain 1926; lead team to National AAU basketball championship 1924 and selected All-Tourney.
Served as a Navy officer in World War II; while serving as athletic director at Shortridge after war, also served as Executive Secretary of the Indiana High School Coaches Association 21 years; established medals for 10-20-30 year coaches; organized first high school ootball amboree in Indianapolis in 1952, an idea that spread across Indiana with funds raised used to pay athletic insurance in schools that participated; inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, where he received Eckrich Silver Medal Award 1966.
