Served in the US Marines 1941-1946, where he played baseball and softball; played and coached football and baseball at Camp Lejeune, NC, 1950-1951 while serving during the Korean conflict.

Key to city of South Bend; named Coach of the Year by BSU and BSU President's Club, Franklin College "Class of 1974" Alumni Association, IFCA, Indiana Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association, Bloomington Herald Telephone, IBreeze (7 times); Exchange Club Outstanding Coach Award; Silver Anniversary Award by Indiana Football Hall of Fame; retired from teaching and coaching in 1981.
Wife, Geraldine "Jerry" (deceased); son, Dee Kevin and daughter, Jill Ann; grandchildren, Riley Scott and Haley Ameila.
Coaching Experience: At South Bend Washington - freshmen coach 1959-1962, with 32-2-2 record; backfield coach “B” team 1962-1969, with 77-18-7 record; head coach 1969-1981, with 88-22-1 record; also, head track coach 1960-1978.

Coaching Honors: Conference Champions in 1961-1964, 1967-1969, 1972-1973, 1975-1977; Sectional Champions 1973-1977; Regional Champions 1973; State Champions 1973; Northern Indiana Conference Coach Award; North head coach for All-Star game.
