Life-long member of Indiana Football Coaches Association; sons Cory, Trent, and Todd all coached at Penn, with Cory as defensive line coach since 1984, Trent as wide receivers coach since 1987, and Todd volunteering as defensive backs coach since 1988; Cory is now head coach at Penn.
Wife, Marilyn (deceased); sons, Trent, Cory, and Todd; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kara, Derick, Erin, Tyler, Gary, Melina, and Gabe.
Coaching Experience: Coached 44 years; head JV coach at Rensselaer HS with 15-1 record 1960-1961; Marion HS backfield coach with 10-0 record (NCC Champs) 1962-1963; Decatur HS head coach with 14-4 record 1964-1965; Bedford HS head coach 1966-1971, with 27-27 record; coached last 29 years of career at Penn HS; considered "First Family of Penn Football" patriarch; co-defensive coordinator since 1973 with record of 298-47; retired from coaching in 1995.

Coaching Honors: 14 Sectional, 8 Semi-state, and 5 State Titles (including 3 consecutive wins); 3 State finalist teams; 89 game regular season with streak, 22 game play-off win streak, and a regular season 10 game record for rushing defense 1983; had 16 consecutive Northern Indiana Conference Championships (21 in 25 years of conference membership); 15 undefeated regular seasons and 26 years of Top Ten State rankings; assistant coach for North All-Stars 1993.
